Eight is Enough!!!

This is going to be a bit of a shock for most of you as I NEVER discuss politics.

Honestly, I don't follow anything that has to do with that awlful P word. However, I guess I am fortunately or unfortunately (depending on who you are and how well you know me) starting to grow up. I have been spending less time watching insignif shows and really concentrating on what is going on with this election. I decided I wanted to see what all the hype was for Obama. I realized that it is time for a change, change is GOOD! Many things that were said really made an impact on me and the community I now live. I'll do my part so he can do his!!!

~ My little darlings ~

Today was the first day of school for Wythe County Public Schools. It is so weird down here with the start of school. Some counties started last Wednesday; a couple counties started their first day today and then there are a few counties that start next Tuesday after Labor Day.
Here are the children in their new school duds! Matt is of course decked out in WVU (boo hiss) and Kristin is "pretty in pink". You can't see her shirt but it is a GO GREEN shirt! She actually picked it out! (personally, I think it was because the pink lettering matched the outfit!)
JD and I seem to think that Kristin will be taller than Matt. We will have to wait and see!!!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is the day that God set aside for me; my special day.

I have decided that todays' birthday is the last one I will be counting as I don't feel I need to "rack up" any more years thus making that number get bigger and bigger and look scarier and scarier!

My husband was so kind to call and wish me a Happy B Day and remind me that there are 365 days until I turn 40! much ablighed~
Nothing would make it better unless there was a drag queen dressed as Marilyn Monroe singing me happy birthday. Well, there's always next year!

Lazy days and Sunday's NEVER get me down . . .

This past weekend was my "Lazy" weekend.

Saturday I did the groceries ritual and we had to get Kristin her knee pads for Volleyball since she made the team. She is now a "Lady Pioneer". WOO HOO!! We are so excited for her first game Tuesday, August 26 (the day before school).

I canned spaghetti sauce, peaches and made my family Blackberry Surprise. Well, thats what Matt has named it.

Sunday, I literally didn't do anything but laundry. It was such a nice day that I managed to hang clothes out and have that wonderful smell permiate my closet!

I spent time playing games on the computer and watched a blast from the past movie on Starz... Sixteen Candles!
As I was watching, I kept catching myself reciting all of the lines and was amazed that I still knew them all like it was 1984. What was I doing in 1984 - Freshman in high school at John Handley.
The kids thought the movie was so lame. They both agreed that it wasn't funny nor was it entertaining at all. However, I enjoyed it and it made me feel so young again.
I managed to get into bet at 9:15pm. I totally needed the sleep. Kristin saw me heading to my bedroom and said, "Are you going to bed?" I said yes, and she busted out laughing. She then tells me its only 9:15. I said, I know and kept on going.
Both kids have been warned that starting Wednesday, they will have to resume their "school day" bed times. Kristin is going to be the challenge. Her bedtime is 9:30pm, however, during the summer, she hasnt been in bed before midnight. Matt on the other hand is easy to get into bed since he has had golf the past two weeks and has been in bed relatively early since he has to get up with me! Therefore, his 10:00 bedtime should be a piece of cake!
All I can say is WOOHOO back to SCHOOL!!!!

Lets get caught up!

Summer if flying by! I can't believe the kids go back to school two weeks from tomorrow.

Matt played in a golf tourney for school yesterday and played the best he has ever played. I guess all that time at the club has payed off! He made the varsity golf team and the #3 seed. (I think this is worded right).

Kristin is still practicing V-ball and will know today if she makes the team. (Only 6 girls have tried out.. YIKES! - I hope no one gets hurt!)

ME - Just working away. I totally love my job! HURRAY!!! There isn't one thing I could possibly tell you that I don't like because I enjoy it every day. The people are fantastic and I feel like I have found what I have been longing for since I moved here.

I have been a canning fool! This past weekend I canned pizza sauce, hot peppers, grape jelly and peaches. We have two peach trees and I hate to see it all go to waste. My thinking: When it is cold outside, pop open the peaches and make a pie or cobbler! MMMMM - - come on Winter.

The weather has been so weird, however, I am NOT COMPLAINING! Brisk in the morning and very comfortable in the afternoons. This morning I was out with the dogs and looked at the dew on top of my grill and it wasn't dew, it was ICE! It was 42 degrees!

JD has been great! He has had to take over the "MOM Taxi". I work too far away to get Kris, take her to school then go back to work. Therefore, he goes in really early (I mean early - 4am) and gets off around 2 to head home to get her. He has been making supper in the evenings too so it has been a HUGE help.

On the flip side, I just got word that my grandmother was taken to the hospital this morning. I sure do hope she is ok. She has been ill with a cold and complained this morning that her legs aren't working (she is diabetic as well). I keep you posted.
I on the other hand got bitten by a spider on Sunday picking grapes. What is it with me getting bitten by creepy crawly things! EEEWWW.

How sad was it to hear that Bernie Mac died. Matt and I loved Bernie Mac! As Matt put it, "How could Mr. 3000 die"? Then we heard another fav of Matt's died. Well, his character: The voice of Chef from South Park - Isaac Hayes.

And finally the Beijing Olympics. What is there to be said? I mean, first there are fake fireworks and now, because a little girl with a magical voice is ugly and has jacked up teeth, she is hidding and a pretty child is sent to lip sync.

Better get this stuff for back to school!

After reading your many comments about my ranting on the Bookbags not being tax free this past weekend, I decided to look at the "listing" of what was "tax free" and why the bookbags were not.

Bookbags are not (because they are considered luggage) however, a girdle and corsets and corset laces are tax free. I also noticed that slippers, rubber pants and garters and garter belts were all tax free as well.

Better get the kids those rubber pants! Aren't they stylish?

The question of the day: Who the hell created this listing? Is it some 95 year old that thinks we still wear corsets? Garter belts?
Doesn't she look ready for school in her brand new "back-to-school" tax free garter belt?

I have decided to paste the link to the listing of items tax free in Virginia:

Leave it to the state of Virginia to create this kind of listing!

Tax-free except for Bookbags?

OK, this is the weirdist thing I have every heard of. It was supposed to be "Tax-Free" day this past Saturday for back to school shopping. However, I was informed that bookbags were exempt. What? Probably the ONLY real thing kids need for school and they charge tax on it. I would LOVE to know the reasoning behind this one. The only thing I can conclude is because it is like luggage? If anyone knows the reason why a bookbag would warrant tax on a "tax-free" day, please let me know.

Now on to the "Pastries" tennis shoes. I am proud to say that Kristin decided she didn't want the tennis shoes after all. (YIPPEE). She decided to go for more of a sport shoe since she has Volleyball tryouts on Thursday and Friday. Here is her new selection: The new Under Armour's. These actually looked better on her and I think she likes them better. She also picked out a new bookbag and apparantly her color for 2008 is PINK.
Matt on the other hand just got new shoes but needs a new bookbag. However, he just has to have his bookbag match his golf bag, so its off to the internet shopping I go. UGH - Kids!
After shopping on Saturday, I came home and headed for the kitchen. I canned hot peppers then made two desserts. First I made a Zucchini cake (carrot cake recipe) and make the cream cheese was FABULOUS. Secondly, I made a Blackberry dessert. It is similar to a cheesecake but much sweeter; EXTREMELY FABULOUS. These both were winners!
On Sunday we just hung out at the house working in the yard and trying to stay cool since it was so hot. To end the evening, we made homemade Vanilla Blackberry ice cream and it is YUMMY!!! (Yes, we have LOTS and LOTS of Blackberries - 4 gallons to be exact).

T.G.I.F. - - I mean really!!!

It has been a b-u-s-y week!

Not to mention my kids are going back to school on August 27 and they have constantly reminded me that we need to go school shopping. UGH....already? Really? It also just so happens that tomorrow is "TAX FREE" day! At least I timed something right.

So far I have only bought Kristin's shoes. She just had to have "Pastries". Believe it or not, my favorite store - Finish Line had them! Because we shop there quite frequently, I had a $10.00 off coupon...score!!! (I completely hate them but its what she just had to have).
I also want to venture to Belk tomorrow morning for the 15% off already reduced prices as Matt needs golf shirts and Saddlebred at $9.99 a piece, double SCORE!
I hope everyone is surviving the heat and have a GREAT WEEKEND!!!!
